Weekend Receipts: Thor Thumps Bridesmaids, Priest Finds Audiences Agnostic
![]()
It was a super second weekend for Thor as it held on to the top spot and declined a relatively slim -47% (contrast that with the -62% tumble that Fast Five took on its second weekend). But the good news wasn’t confined to first, as the poopin’ dames of Bridesmaids notched a strong debut at second place. But pity the clergy as Priest could only muster a fourth place bow. Your weekend receipts are here.
1. Thor
Gross: $34,500,000 ($119,252,000)
Screens: 3,963 (PSA: $8,706)
Weeks: 2 (change: -47.5%)
If you’re a comic dork like me, you might’ve been on the look out for a few Easter eggs throughout the movie, little shoutouts to the original comic book. And evidently Odin’s treasure room was the place to sharpen your vision, with all sorts of goodies like the Warlock’s Eye and the Infinity Gauntlet.
2. Bridesmaids
Gross: $24,409,000 (new)
Screens: 2,918 (PSA: $8,365)
Weeks: 1
It’s a hilarious comedy, but it had some oddly dramatic patches that I found surprising and not handled as deftly as the comedy. The movie asked Kristin Wiig to take on some heavy moments on her shoulders and I just don’t think she had the heft to carry it. But, hey! I’m still laughing at the dress fitting scene.
3. Fast Five
Gross: $19,534,000 ($168,780,000)
Screens: 3,793 (PSA: $5,150)
Weeks: 3 (change:-39.8%)
Fast Five is now the highest grossing entry in the series, but where do the titles go on from here? Speedy Six? Super-Fast Seven? Alacritous Eight? …

According to the lawsuit, McFayden's former flame -- Kristin Lancione -- claims Brian "fraudulently represented to [her] that he planned on asking her to marry her, but could not find a job to support himself."Kristin claims McFayden begged her to support him -- so she paid his rent, utilities, phone bills and even gave him cash whenever he asked for it ... assuming he would pay her back when he got a job. But Kristin says Brian "had no intention of finding a job, and wanted the cash flow so he could remain unemployed, stay at home all day, and play [Kristin's] PS3 videogame system on [her] 72 inch television while [Kristin] was at work."Kristin claims Brian owes her more than $86k ... including $1,200 for the therapy sessions she says she needed to deal with all of the BS. Calls to McFayden have not been returned.
