Shaq In Middle of Kidnapping, Robbery, Sex Tape Case

Shaquille O'Neal is embroiled in a criminal case in which 7 gang members allegedly kidnapped, beat up and robbed a man who claimed to have a tape showing Shaq having sex with other women while he was married to Shaunie.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... Ladell Rowles -- a member of the Main Street Mafia Crip Gang in L.A. who is friends with Shaq -- along with 6 other members went on a search and destroy mission in L.A. on February 11, 2008.  They believed a man named Robert Ross had the sex tape and they tried getting it back with the help of a gun or two.

According to the police report, the 7 gang members met up with Ross at a convenience store -- Pink Dot -- on the Sunset Strip.  The men allegedly surrounded Ross' Rolls Royce Phantom with guns drawn, jumped into Ross' car and ordered him to drive to Rowles' house in South Central L.A.

Once there, Rowles allegedly pistol whipped Ross and demanded that he turn over the sex tape.  Ross said he would get the tape and bring it back to them.  The 7 men then allegedly took Ross' Rolex, diamond chain and earrings, along with $15,000 in cash -- then let Ross go.

The 7 men have been arrested and charged with robbery, kidnapping and other crimes. They are currently in the middle of a preliminary hearing and being held in jail.

We've learned LAPD detectives interviewed Shaq to determine what, if any, involvement he had in the alleged crimes.  When the case file went to the D.A. Shaq was not listed as a suspect.

Now here's the interesting backstory.

Ross has a history with Shaq.  Shaq and his business manager, Mark Stevens, have a record label and allegedly told Ross they would give him a 50% cut in any artists he brought to them.  Ross claims he delivered Ray J to Shaq but got cut out of the deal.

Ross told cops after his falling out, he threatened Shaq by telling him about the sex tape, threatening to release it unless Shaq paid up.

As for the tape, Ross claims Shaq brought women to Ross' home and had sex with them while he was married to Shaunie.   Ross told Shaq a "security camera" captured the action and it was all on tape.  But Ross told cops the security camera recycles periodically and the video no longer exists.

And there's another twist.  Around the time Shaq and Ross had their falling out, Shaunie separated from Shaq and Ross claims he began having an affair with her.  Ross claims Shaq hired a private investigator to tail Shaunie and the P.I. caught the two together.

0614_shaunie_launchWe put a call in to Shaq's rep ... so far, no response.

Worth noting -- Shaunie was out in L.A. recently, and had a few sage words of advice for her recently retired ex-husband.

Talkback: Do You Think Stuntpeople Should Have An Oscar Category?

Leader image for Talkback: Do You Think Stuntpeople Should Have An Oscar Category?

Earlier this year, Vin Diesel boldly told the Los Angeles Times that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Fast Five garnered “Oscar talk” this award season. While the fifth Fast and Furious film won’t be winning any statuettes for its acting this lifetime (sorry, Vin, The Rock and Ludacris), it might have a legitimate shot at an Academy Award if the movie’s stunt coordinator Jack Gill convinces the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to add a Best Stunt category.

Gill — who has coordinated stunts on nearly 150 films including Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Pearl Harbor and Con Air — will join a group of stuntmen and women on Tuesday night to lobby the AMPAS Board of Governors for their own annual award, which they propose be handed out in advance of the main telecast with the other technical categories. Gill isn’t alone in his wish for recognition; veteran stunt icon Vic Armstrong told Movieline last month that it was “ridiculous” stuntpeople didn’t have an Oscar category all to themselves… not that Armstrong felt the goal would never be achieved.

I don’t think we ever will get accepted. I’m in the Academy, and we keep having petitions and votes and everything, but it doesn’t seem to get anywhere. I think it is ridiculous when you have two categories for editing, two categories for sound, you’ve makeup separate, you’ve got wardrobe separate — all these things that are all deserving in their own way. In the old days they used

Read Director Michael Powells Gushing Letter to Martin Scorsese About an Early Draft of GoodfellasThe legendary British director Michael Powell (The Red Shoes, The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp) had been friends with Martin Scorsese for over a decade by 1988. Scorsese idolized Powell, and it appears that reverence was reciprocated in a letter Powell sent regarding an epic Scorsese-penned script that would be released two years later as Goodfellas, the same year Powell died. Dig this amazing find.

Re: the script of Wise Guys

It is one of the best constructed scripts that I have ever read. At the same time it is not academic, it is not a script just on paper. It is very much alive.

The first question I would ask you, is what is the tone of the director? It is a take-it-or-leave-it tone? It is a dispassionate tone? Is it meant to be the wiseguy’s thoughts - or meditations - or memories? And, in the final hiding place, is he resigned to his completely anonymous existence, or does he expect that they will catch up with him some day?

I think that the narration is brilliantly handled on the page, and the tone of the narration will be equally important. How have you managed to sustain the action and narration side by side for the whole length of the script? It’s a masterpiece. I can only compare it with the script of The African Queen, or Billy Wilder’s Double Indemnity.

Yes, it is a little long, and the pause, or the length, seems to come about the 100 minute mark. By the way, the women, when they arrive, are very good, but I would love to see one of the women
